We offer M.S.D.E. approved training workshops for preschools and daycares in Montgomery County, MD.  Our original trainings are designed to promote empathy and kindness.  (See the list of State mandated M.S.D.E. trainings below.)

1. Training Title: Powerful Teacher Language that Helps Children Learn

 

Training Description: This workshop is based on the book, The Power of Our Words: Teacher Language That Helps Children Learn, by Paula Denton, EdD. This training will help to show teachers how powerful their words are and why they are their most powerful teaching tool.  We will look at the impact of our words in conjunction with our tone of voice ad how they impact those around us. Through realistic examples and engaging hands-on activities, we will uncover some simple techniques to achieve success in academic instruction, community building, discipline and classroom management.

2. Training Title: Another Look at Powerful Teacher Language That Helps Children Learn

 

Training Description: This workshop takes another look at the book, The Power of Our Words: Teacher Language That Helps Children Learn, by Paula Denton. It will help teachers take a deeper look into why words can be so powerful and how they can utilize them as a teaching tool to help their students reach their full potential. We will analyze individual practices and create a plan for ways to increase productivity through the use of powerful teacher language. Through self-reflection and hands-on activities, teachers will have an opportunity to discover the power of their own teacher language.

**Training Title: Another Look at Powerful Teacher Language That Helps Children Learn Expanded Version

3. Training Title: The Power of Music and Movement

 

Training Description: In this training, we will look at the various ways that music and movement can impact the behavior of children in the classroom.  We will see how music and movement can create positive feelings of belonging, tolerance, kindness and well-being.  In addition we will learn about how these positive feelings can promote a positive self-image and impact all areas of their lives.  Participants will have opportunities to learn new songs that promote learning and positive feelings and create a lesson that they can bring back and use in their own classrooms.

4. Training Title:  Using Literature to Promote an Anti-bias Classroom

 

Training Description:  This workshop is designed to help educators understand the need for anti-bias literature and generate ideas to create their own anti-bias library.  Through hands-on activities and in-depth discussions, we will look at various genres of children’s literature and how anti-bias books can help promote social justice.   Participants will have an opportunity to review and practice the steps to evaluate and select anti-bias books for children.

5. Training Title:  Promoting Positive Relationships to Connect with Families

 

Training Description:  This workshop is designed to help teachers think about ways to promote positive relationships with families. They will have opportunities to think about their own biases and how they may be impacting their relationships with children and families.  Through hands-on activities and discussions, teachers will create activities they can bring back to the classroom to build better connections to families.

6. Training Title: The Connection between Antisocial Behaviors (Bullying) and Prosocial Behaviors with Children
 

This training will introduce the terms pro-social behavior and anti-social behavior and discuss the behaviors that are visible in the classrooms today.  It will look at factors that show the importance of promoting these behaviors at an early age and what educators can do to promote pro-social behaviors.  We will review examples of great resources for books and come up with activities to support pro-social behaviors in the classroom.
